LUSH DYAD is a newly formed artist duo created by Solanne Bernard and Marc-Aurèle Debut, two London based sculptors. They both graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2020, and have just finished the Plop Artist Residency at the Bomb Factory as a duo, developing the beginnings of a larger shared body of work. This collaboration sparked a desire to continue this dialogue, mingling their practices and individual research beyond this time at the residency, thus forming of LUSH DYAD - a fertile and exciting new partnership.
Both Marc-Aurèle and Solanne are interested in creating immersive shows, delving deep into the inherent hybridity of bodies as a form of resistance, destabilising fixed identities and encouraging new types of subjectivities to form. Their collaborative work becomes other-worldly, visceral, towing the line between the erotic and the weird. Acting as a catalyst, their practice questions how fluidity and hybridity helps create deeper connections and meaning with the world around us.
Blending the strange and the sensual, both artists play with the elasticity of their visual languages and where they intersect. Working through sculpture and installation, they approach the body not as a stable or singular entity, but as porous, elastic, and continually becoming.
The duo seeks to create spaces where intimacy becomes political, creating bold and playful installations which both titillate and unsettle.
